Supply Chain Risk Rises Sharply as Transportation and Economic Pressures Intensify

The Lehigh Business Supply Chain Risk Management Index signals a significant escalation in supply chain risk for the third quarter of 2026, with the overall index rising from 65.74 to 69.34. Six of the ten risk categories increased, led by a dramatic surge in Transportation Disruption Risk to 87.50 and Economic Risk to 83.97. Geopolitical tensions, higher fuel and energy costs, tariff uncertainty and persistent inflation are creating new pressures across global supply chains, while cybersecurity and data risk remain a major concern as AI-enabled threats continue to evolve. The Q3 results make one point clear: supply chain leaders are operating in an increasingly interconnected risk environment where disruption in one area can quickly create consequences across the entire enterprise.
